Mechanical Animals

This album is going to make teeth shake among wild metal fans who have discovered Manson with Antichrist Superstar ! Mechanical Animals is a very different album in terms of style. More electro sounds, more guitars, choirs, a little comeback to the Funk period (I Don't like drugs / But the drugs like me) and above all, Manson who yells much less than in Antichrist Superstar.
It is rather astounding, however Manson's trashy style is still there, provocation and lyrics as great as usual as well. As for the previous album, Manson invented a new character around whom all the album is built : after Antichrist, here comes Omega, accompanied with his Mechanical Animals.

New themes, here too, a little change : if classic themes such as death, suicide and Nihilism are present, there are no more the main subject. Mechanical Animals is attacking medicine, surgery, too much media coverage, fake stars built by unscrupulous producers (Is Manson targeting the Spice Girls?), drugs and loads of other things. To finish with, this album is the first one where the new guitarist John Lowery (previously member of TWO) appears, he replaces Zim Zum who left the group soon after the album was recorded. One can also note that on the song entitled Post Human appears the actress Rose Mc Gowan who was played in Scream and the Doom Generation. To conclude with, Mechanical Animals is very different from all the other albums made by Manson ; perhaps a little less powerful than Antichrist Superstar but awesome anyway.

Commentary by : Bhumi from Strasbourg (France)

In the continuity of " Antichrist Superstar ", although the it is more oriented towards glamour, this album is awesome ! Unbelievable heights are reached "Coma White" or "Great Big White World" as mellow as "Minute of Decay" on Antichrist Superstar. Generally speaking, it is an album rather soft musically speaking but its lyrics are pretty acid and fuckingly real. ("a pill that make u numb…but all the drugs in this world won't save her from herself"). This is a perfect album to make people discover Marilyn Manson even if they are frightened by his image, before orienting them towards harder groups (even if there are also titles which tear your ears off in here such as "Rock is dead" present on the Matrix original motion picture soundtrack)
